What I Miss Most


My daughter was recently diagnosed with celiac disease so we’ve had to remove all gluten products from our home. It’s strange. You think I would miss the bread or the pasta but what I miss most are sauces and eating out at any restaurant that sounds good!

Last night we tried homemade BBQ sauce for the first time and it was awesome! You don’t even have to cook anything which is even better. It had a mildly spicy flavor but was mostly sweet which was great for my young kids.

So, I thought I would share the recipe here. Do you have food allergies or intolerances? If so, what do you miss most? I would love to hear your thoughts. Sometimes even though we know something will make us sick, it’s hard to resist. Wouldn’t it be great if each food were healthy and would never make anyone sick?

BBQ Sauce

Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 cup water (this makes a pretty thin sauce, so you may want to reduce the amount)
1 cup Annie’s organic ketchup (gluten-free)
2 teaspoons mustard powder
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon celery powder
2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
2 teaspoons lemon juice

Place all ingredients in a food processor and pulse until mixed well and smooth in consistency.

Baste sauce on to your choice of meat or use as a dipping sauce.
